Randy Kent, M.S., P.E., Metallurgical Engineer   Founder and principal of Kent Engineering, Randy Kent is a registered professional engineer with over 32 years of experience in failure analysis and mechanical engineering forensics. His expertise has been sought in developing the industry-standard ASM Handbook series, International Fatigue Congress publications, with over 100 depositions, trials, and arbitrations to his name. In addition to his work at Kent Engineering, Randy is a professor of materials engineering for upper-level engineering students at the University of Washington, as well an advisor of curriculum development for Haward Technology Middle East. Randy holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in in metallurgical engineering, both from the University of Washington. In his free time, Randy can be found with his wife, kids, and grandkids. Mike York, M.S., P.E., Materials Engineer   Mike is a senior engineer with over 39 years in the field. He received his B.S. in metallurgical engineering and his master’s degree in material science, both from Oregon State University. He’s also a registered professional engineer in the state of Oregon. Mike focuses his consulting in failure analysis of materials and mechanical systems; materials testing and evaluation; weld testing and procedures; examination of fractures, components, and surfaces; inspection of various accident types, including vehicles for motor vehicle accident reconstruction, performing speed, time, distance, and reaction time calculations for reconstruction. Mike is also experienced in fire origin and cause analysis. He specializes in mechanical testing of materials, imaging of airbag control modules using CDR/Bosch instrumentation, fracture analysis, and slip resistance measurements of walking surfaces using variable incidence tribometer (VIT). In his career, Mike has provided expert testimony in over 100 trials and depositions. When he’s not working, Mike can be found spending time with his wife, daughter, and dog, Parker. Beyond engineering, Mike is a horse expert, and enjoys boarding and showing horses in regional and national competitions.   Download CV

He’s also a registered professional engineer in the state of Oregon. Fred Volkers, Plumbing Inspector   A 50-year member of UA (United Association) Local 32 Seattle, WA, having served a five year Plumbing apprenticeship with UA Local 32 Seattle, WA. Washington state Certified Journeyman Plumber (1973 to present Cert. #VOLKEFC233LT) with over 50 years’ experience in design, installation, supervision, and inspection of commercial and residential plumbing systems. Ricky specializes in electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems, with a focus on performing inspections on cranes and all types of lifting equipment as well as providing consultations and review for structural design, layout, and operations of man/material lifts. He was a Special Intelligence System Administrator for the United State Marine Corps from 2008-2013.

He is also accredited in cargo handling gear, conveyors, spouts, and suckers. David specializes in inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT). Before joining Kent Engineering, David spent 6 years as a mechanic, shop lead, and steel fabricator focused on the repair of crane booms and structural members.

Patrick Kent, M.S., Principal & General Manager   As a former Division 1 athletics coach, professional golfer, and golf instructor, Patrick brings eight years of experience in strategic planning, implementation, organizational change management, and talent development. He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Colorado Christian University and a master’s degree in organizational leadership: strategy and change from the University of Denver. Later, he earned a peak performance trainer certification from the Heart Math Institute. At Kent, his responsibilities include management of all major back-office functions (support operations, finance, HR, IT), joint management of all front-office functions (product operations, service delivery, marketing), as well as talent management and recruiting. When not working, Patrick can be found spending time with his wife and two daughters. Patrick also finds rest and enjoyment in hunting, fly fishing, and golfing.

Mallory Kent, Operations Administrator   Mallory received her BS in Management and Operations from Washington State University, where she competed and captained the women’s golf team. After college, Mallory went on to play professional golf for 4 years. Mallory is the process leader for operation and administration. Her day-to-day responsibilities include scheduling and coordination, managing internal and external communications for the engineering division, executing project contracts and key forms, assigning new projects to experts, and leading the internship program.

Elissa Miller, Accounting & HR Manager   With a bachelor’s degree in business specializing in finance from the University of Washington, Tacoma, Elissa has brought her expertise to Kent for the past three years, managing accounting and HR including payroll management, invoicing and collections, and bill pay. Before graduating from UW Tacoma, Elissa spent time as a collegiate student-athlete competing on the women’s soccer team at Pacific University in Oregon. Trent Siedenburg, Business Intern, Northwest University   Trent Siedenburg is a student at Northwest University, where he is also a captain for the men’s soccer team. Trent is pursuing a degree in business management, and at Kent Engineering, he assists with day-to-day operations and special projects.

Ian Thompson, Engineering Intern, LeTourneau University   Ian is senior university student at LeTourneau University pursuing an Engineering B.S. with a concentration in materials joining. At Kent, Ian manages engineering projects and assists with with scheduling, budgeting, and trend tracking. He also supports forensics operations through materials testing, sample characterization, weld procedure and implementation design, material handling, and official documentation generation and review. Ian has also interned at Kiewit-TIC.

At Kent, Ian manages engineering projects and assists with with scheduling, budgeting, and trend tracking. He also supports forensics operations through materials testing, sample characterization, weld procedure and implementation design, material handling, and official documentation generation and review. Ian has also interned at Kiewit-TIC.

Kirsten Noble, Engineering Intern, Seattle Pacific University   Kirsten is the project coordinator intern at Kent Engineering, and she’s currently working toward her B.S. Mechanical Engineering from Seattle Pacific University. At Seattle Pacific, Kirsten serves as the president of the Women in Engineering and Computer Science (WECS) club. At Kent, Kirsten coordinates scheduling, assists with design work, and sets project timelines and budgets for engineering projects. Prior to Kent, Kirsten has completed engineering internships at Digital Control Inc., Systems and The Boeing Company.

Kirsten is the project coordinator intern at Kent Engineering, and she’s currently working toward her B.S. Mechanical Engineering from Seattle Pacific University. At Seattle Pacific, Kirsten serves as the president of the Women in Engineering and Computer Science (WECS) club. At Kent, Kirsten coordinates scheduling, assists with design work, and sets project timelines and budgets for engineering projects. Prior to Kent, Kirsten has completed engineering internships at Digital Control Inc., Systems and The Boeing Company.

Dr. Gary Ewen   Gary is certified by the Paterson Center as a LifePlan™ facilitator and StratOp™ facilitator. As a respected advisor to a number of thriving organizations, Gary is widely recognized as a master teacher and trainer. He has two degrees in education and earned a doctorate in the area of strategic leadership. Gary spent sixteen years as the Chief Technology Officer at Colorado Christian University and currently serves as the Dean of the School of Business and Leadership. He also serves individuals and organizations (both for-profit and nonprofit) as a consultant, trainer, and facilitator. Gary lives with his wife in the mountain town of Evergreen, Colorado where he enjoys fly fishing and reading in his spare time. They have three adult children and three grandchildren.
